Ice fishing is a popular winter past time!  If you are planning to head out on the ice, we found some tips that would be good to keep in mind.

These ideas can go a long way in ensuring your fishing trip is good, and you make it off the ice safely.

Keeping your wits about you can go a long way in making sure you keep safety as a focus.  Preparation is key!  You need a plan, along with proper hydration, sustenance, and the right layers of clothing.

  1. Share your fishing plans.
  2. Bring a friend.
  3. Talk to the locals.
  4. Follow ice thickness guidelines.
  5. Use a flotation suit.
  6. Carry a pair of ice picks/rescue claws.
  7. Carry a throw rope.
  8. Leave the lake before dark.
  9. Install proper ventilation (ice shanty).
  10. Have a portable power bank battery charger.
  11. Give the ice auger the respect it deserves.
  12. Stay hydrated.
  13. Layer up.
