Living in and around the mountains, we have lots of chances to explore trails, and off highway roads. Often, we need to use a tow vehicle to transport or atv’s and utv’s to the trails and backroads.
Setting up your trailer, hitch, and distributing your load correctly are all important to maintaining a safe drive, and ensuring you reach it to your destination worry free.
If you tow your adventure vehicles, or anything else; these are some good things to keep in mind.
Towing your ATV’s & UTV’s
- Check that weight distribution, left to right, and front to back!
- New to trailering? Practice on secluded roads if available.
- On longer drives, pull over frequently and check your load, trailer, connections, etc.
- Make sure you’re using the right equipment! Hitches, receiver, weight ratings for these plus your vehicle and trailer are all important to understand.
- Connect your lights properly, and be sure tail lights, brakes, and blinkers are all working before hitting the road.
- Check those tires! Proper inflation is critical to towing safely, and old or dry rotted tires should be considered for replacement.
- Increase your following distance behind vehicles on the road!
